Auc 149 Buckeye Flashcards
What is a short tee wrench used for?
Opening the hinged cover at valve
Buckeye pipeline comsists of 2 12” steel pipes. 1 kerosene and 1 gas which operate at 1200 psig but its max service pressure is _______ psig.(pound force per square inch gauge)
200
The 3 1/2 foot wrench w female fitting mates with a male fitting on valve to turn the valve. What color is it?
Painted yellow
There is a combination wrench which combines the short tee and the 3 1/2 wrench
Manual shut offs are generally below ground and in order to shut them down how many turns must you make w the 3 1/2 wrench.
42 full turns
One exception to the 42 turns rule is in Long Island city terminal. In lic terminal you must make how many full turns?
24 full turns
Pipeline profile cards show elevation of of valves above sea level and the amount of product carried between each valve. They are issued to each assigned unit and where else can u find them?
In each valve box
(They are laminated and after use you must return to valve box, missing cards must be reported to buckeye pipeline coordinator in div 8)
Unit alarm assignment cards and instruction cards are assigned to each assigned and alternate unit. 1 is placed on the rig and where is the other placed?
In a prominent clearly marked location at the hw for relocators.
What else should be placed in the hw?
An extra set of wrenches shall be hung on the wall near the hw desk for relocators
If a leak is verified, dispatch will transmit a 2nd alarm 4 the street box closest to report location. If you are a unit responding in w/out special wrenches, maps or cards associated w pipeline, what should you do?
Notify dispatch and find out where nearest house w equipment is and get the equipment from them.
( if a unit gets diverted from isolation duties they must notify dispatch too. So they can get someone else on it)
Foot patrols along the pipeline shall be done by foot with 2 ht equipped ff’s or by apparatus. Where do you find which patrol you should be on?
Alarm assignment cards will tell you how to patrol
If a unit determines that they can’t shut down the valve, they must notify the ic or dispatch so another unit can be dispatched. If you aren’t an assigned isolation unit where should you respond to?
Command post
When units get to valve locations what should the officer do?
10-84 and inform dispatch of valve closure as well at completion of duties
Engine companies responding from out of quarters to a 2 alarm street box involving a buckeye leak must return to quarters to pick up extra foam can. T Or f
F. They must continue in
(Engine companies responding from quarters must add additional cans of foam to the rig. Additional cans of foam are placed next to the wrenches at the hw for relocators)
If ignition occurs before arrival units must still perform isolation duties. Isolation is of the upmost importance. Once we close the valves we are never allowed to open them again. T or f
F. Only if directed by ic.
potential for explosion is greatest on hot, humid, calm day
Solid hose streams held a few feet from the ground and moved rapidly from side to side will wash burning gas/ fuel aside to provide a path for rescue. T or f?
F. Held a few inches above the ground
(Cover ignited pools of spilled gas/ ful w foam
