Haz Mat Chapter 3,4,5,7 Flashcards
Haz mat
What is a co emergency?
Mater readings are greater than 9 or people are SYMPTOMATIC
Haz mat
What is a co incident?
9ppm or less
Haz mat. If readings are above 9ppm what should we do?
Recommend people leave the area and begin ventilation
Haz mat
What should we do if readings are above 100ppm?
We must evacuate the area this is legal levels of CO
Haz mat
What do we do if people have symptoms?
Evacuate the area
1038- you need detector activation to give a code 2 or 3
What is a code 1
What is a code 4
Code1- detector activation but low battery or a defective unit
Code4- no detector present in area or present but did not activate
Haz mat
T/F co is colorless, odorless, tasteless, non-irritating and a non-toxic gas?
False toxic gas
Co is virtually undetectable without special instruments, what is the LEL of co and the UEL of co?
LEL- 12.5%
UEL- 74%
Is co heavier or lighter than air?
Co is slightly lighter than air (.968). Since warm air rises co will rise with it. Co will disperse evenly throughout the room.
What are the symptoms associated with low level of co?
Headache, fatigue, nausea, dizziness
What are the symptoms associated with medium level of co?
Vomiting, drowsiness, loss of consciousness
What are the symptoms associated with high levels of co?
Seizure, coma, permanent brain damage or even death
If people have symptoms of co poisoning what should we do?
Evacuate, ventilate, and request EMS
When should we request a utility company when dealing with co?
If co readings are over 9ppm
If units shut off gas appliance
People exhibiting symptoms of co poisoning
Note: co provides no early warning signs
If affixing co monitor to ht strap where should we affix it?
To the chest area, having the co monitor near the HT antenna will cause false activations.
If the concentration of co in the atmosphere exceeds 35ppm but less than 100 ppm the gas alert extreme co monitor will signal?
A slow modulating tone every 1 second
A sallow flashing red light every 1 second
A slow vibration every 1 second
When the co concentration falls below 35ppm the alarm will automatically turn off.
When using the gas alert extreme co monitor, what is the only button that should be used by field units?
The green circular button on the left
What is the minimum staffing levels of cpc ladders?
Their is no minimum staffing for cpc ladders
Can soc support ladders do mitigation?
They can assist , they can not initiate mitigation on their own. Soc support has more training than cpc units but not as much as HMTU. Soc support ladders are tech one
HMTU are tech two
L33 is CPC
L46 is SSL
What does CPC stand for?
Chemical protective clothing units
What can cpc units do?
They can remove people and responders in contaminated areas.
What level suits do cpc units wear?
They wear level A and B cpc suits
Can cpc units perform decontamination?
Yes
Can cpc units perform mitigation?
No they cannot perform mitigation
Does the CPC unit officer have to wear a cpc suit all the time?
He does not have to wear a cpc suit to perform functional supervision.
An example when he would have to wear is suite is when the entry team would not be in lign of sight. A complex entry team operation.
In areas of limited or no line of sight with the cpc unit officer, what shall the entry team do?
The entry team shall give a detailed description of the areas they pass through and work in.
If a fire fighter becomes aware of a possible cause for the release of a hazardous material, who should they notify?
The CPC unit officer
If a fire fighter of the entry team goes down for an unknown reason, the other entry team member should do what?
Leave the area immediately and notify the back up team
Can a cpc unit be used at any incident?
Yes they can
The back up team consists of how many members?
2 cpc trained members
Can cpc units perform NST, ( noxious stimulus triage)
Yes
Is NST used for conscious or unconscious victims?
Unconscious
Perform NST for how many victims?
3 or more. Not a single victim
Does a decon station have to be established prior to cpc personnel entering into the hot zone or warm zone?
Yes it must
When does black tag get removed?
Last
The primary function of the cpc unit that is performing decon is?
To provide immediate decon to cpc entry team members
Who shall establish a written log of the on air times of the entry team?
The cpc unit officer
PS confined space a FF does log
A single 2 member entry team can handle how many victims?
1 or 2
T/f at a large scale incident, ambulatory victims should be escorted to the appropriate casualty collection point?
False. Directed not escorted
Can medical treatment and decon take place simultaneously?
Yes
Removal of a victims clothing will remove up to ____% of contamination?
90%
Note: soc support has more training than cpc but not as much as HMTU
Note
Entry team: if one member must leave what does the other member do
He must go too
What is the task of the back up team?
Their sole task is the removal of down members
Who recommends to the IC the entry point into the hot zone?
The cpc unit officer
Should the cpc unit officer establish a 2nd HT channel for cpc equipped members?
Yes
A cpc entry into a contaminated area requires how many cpc trained members?
5 cpc trained
2 entry, 2 back up and 1 decon
Not necessarily from the same unit
Who determines a members order of decontamination?
The member determines their own order of decontamination
HAzmat 3
Asbestos
When does ASBESTOS become hazardous?
When material becomes FRIABLE
AND IS
allowed into the atmosphere and is
INHALED n INGESTED
Hazmat 3
Asbestos
Where is ASBESTOS Located?
