Animals have
One large golgi
Plants cells have
many little golgis
Golgi function
Modify and distribute proteins and membrane lipids made in the ER
Each compartment of the golgi contains
Different enzymes
golgi contains a
Trans golgi network (TGN) which sends things to the plasma membrane
Constitutive exocystosis
Default pathway from ER to golgi to secretory vesicles
Regulated exocytosis
Golgi releases secretory vesicles storing secretory protein
Extracellular signal such as a hormone causes signal transduction
Regulated exocytosis release vesicle contents into extracellular space
Lysosomes
Large vesicle with digestive enzymes and transport proteins to move things from the lysosome to outside the cell
TGN uses a
Unregulated system and regulated system to transport to plasma membrane
TGN to Lysosome
Future lysosome enzymes are given M6P signal in golgi
Golgi gives protein M6P through enzymes which is an example of protein modification
M6P receptors bring them
Into lysosomes
High affinity for cargo in golgi (due to pH of 6.5)
Low affinity for cargo in lysosome (due to pH of <6)
Delivery of substrates to lysosomes
Vesicles formed by receptor mediated endocytosis and phagocytosis fuse with lysosomes
