What does the eyepiece do?
usually 10x magnification. What you look through
What is the arm of the microscope?
What you hold the microscope with when carrying it
What is the revolving nosepiece?
Used to adjust which objective lens you’re using.
What are the objective lens?
Actual magnification you’re using.
What are the three objective lens?
4x (scanning), 10x (low power), 40x (high power)
What is the stage of the microscope?
Where you put the slides. Can be moved up, down, left, right.
What is the condenser?
Captures light from the illuminator to be displayed in a “cone” on the stage.
What is the illuminator?
Displays light onto the condenser
What is the coarse focus?
adjust the height of stage using significant changes.
What is the fine focus?
adjust the height of stage. minimal changes.
What is Lugol’s solution?
Indicates starch when turning black. Normal state is a yellow-amber color.
What is Benedict’s solution?
Indicates glucose by turning into a orange when HEATED. Normal state is a light blue.
