Aditus
The entrance to a cavity
Alveolus
A deep pit or socket, such as one that holds a tooth
Condyle
A rounded or knuckle-like prominence, such as the occipital condyle
May be found at the articulation point of one bone with another
Crest
A narrow ridge of bone, as at the edge of the flared part of the hip bone
Eminence
A ridge or projection, or rounded prominence, like the rounded portions of the forehead bone
Epicondyle
A protuberance or prominence above a condyle, as above the condyles at the distal end of the humerus
Facet
A smooth, flattened articular surface, as in the gliding joints
Fissure
A narrow slit or cleft between bones, such as the orbital fissure
Foramen
An orifice for passage of blood vessels and/or nerves
Fossa
A depression or hollow, such as the orbital fossa for the eyeball
Head
A rounded projection beyond a constricted part or neck, as on the femur
Line
A ridge of bone less prominent than a crest, usually a site of muscle attachment
Meatus or Canal
A long, tube-like passage, such as the external ear canal
Process
Any marked bony prominence or projection
Sinus or Antrum
A cavity within a bone, such as the sinus in the frontal bone
Spine
A sharp, slender projection, such as the spinous process of a vertebrae
Sulcus
A furrow or groove, such as the bicipital groove on the humerus for passage of a tendon
Trochanter
A large process for muscle attachment, such as the greater trochanter of the femur
Trochlea
A process shaped like a pulley, such as the one on the humerus that forms a joint with the ulna
Tubercle
A small rounded process, such as the tubercle of a rib
Tuberosity
A large rounded process, such as the ischial tuberosity
