JANE - TODDLER Flashcards
A toddler’s growing sense of
independence, where they want to do things on their
own, like dressing themselves or choosing what to eat.
AUTONOMY
When a toddler observes an action
and then copies it later, showing that they remember
what they saw
DEFERRED IMITATION
Teaching toddlers right from wrong by
setting rules and boundaries, often using guidance rather
than harsh punishment.
DISCIPLINE
A stage in thinking (ages
2–7) where toddlers are imaginative, believe in magic,
and see the world only from their own perspective
(egocentrism)
PREOPERATIONAL THOUGHT
– A normal curve in a toddler’s lower back that
makes their belly stick out and gives them a swayback
appearance.
LORDOSIS
A type of play where toddlers play next
to each other but not with each other, as they are still
learning social skills.
PARALLEL PLAY
– A consequence given to stop unwanted
behavior, like a time-out, but should be done gently to
teach rather than harm.
PUNISHMENT
