Hypertensive DRUGS Flashcards
The ANTI-HPN drugs:
- Diuretics
- Beta-blockers
- Calcium Channel Blocker CCB
- Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE) inhibitors
- Angiotensin II BLOCKERS (ARB)
- Arteriolar vasodilators
- Central-acting sympatholytic agents
- Pre-ganglionic Adrenergic Blockers
- Anti-hyperlipidemic agents
S/E of Anti-Hypertensive Drugs:
orthostatic HYPO-tension (HPoN)
except: Diuretics & anti-hyper-lipidemic agents
most commonly used anti-hypertensive diuretic agent:
Thiazide - Hydrochlorothiazide (HCT)
more potent diuretics but weaker anti-hypertensive effect:
Loop Diuretics:
Furosemide
bumetamide
ethacrynic acid
S/E of Loop diuretics:
Severe Electrolyte imbalance
has modest anti-hypertensive effect with minimal K+ loss
useful for mineralocorticoids excess with HPN
K+ electrolyte sparing diuretics :
Spironolactone
amiloride
triamterene
Side effect of Beta-blockers:
Bradycardia
Contra-Indications of non-selective beta-blockers:
COPD - Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary diseases
DM
beta-blocker for emergency HPN
Labetolol IV
Beta-blockers that are safe with COPD & DM :
Cardio-selective (B1) beta-blockers
non-selective beta blockers list:
MGA OLOL
- Propanolol - 1st discovered
- Timolol
- Labetolol
- Carteolol
cardio-selective B1 blockers list:
Practolol - 1st discovered
Betaxolol - has anesthetic like membrane action (affects cardiac action potential)
Nevibolol - has vasodilating property
Calcium Channel Blocker (CCB) list:
MGA PINE:
Nifedipine
Amlodipine
S/E of CCB:
Headache
inhibits NA+ and water retention:
ACE - Angiotensin Converting Enzyme
Captopril
MGA PRIL
