A
Ledum palustre, marsh tea.

Use:
A
Any puncture wound.

Mental picture:
A
- Often dislike company and want to be alone.

General picture:
A
- Puncture wounds from stings, bites, nails, thorns.
- Pains are stabbing, tearing, throbbing.
- Affected area swells, is bluish and feels cold to the touch yet feels hot to the sufferer.
- > cold applications
- < heat.

Indications (if they fit the symptom picture):
A
- Puncture wounds: Stabbings, insect bites, animal bites, thorns, stepping on a nail.
- Alongside oral use, tablets can be crushed and mixed with a small amount of water to bathe the wound.
- Long-lasting discolouration after injury ― black / blue spots turn green.
- Tetanus prophylactic.
- Blunt trauma to the eye (black eye). (Consider arnica too).
- Joint swellings e.g., gout, that are better for cold applications.

Case example 1:
A
- 5-year-old child stood on a rusty nail.
- The area around the wound was pale with a darkened region at the puncture site.
- The parents were concerned about tetanus.
- Prescribed ledum 30C3 x daily for 3 days.
- It was also recommended the puncture wound be bathed in a solution of calendula and hypericum.
- Within 3 days the wound had healed beautifully with no complications.

Case example 2:
A
- A child was hit in the face with a cricket bat and suffered blunt trauma to the right eye socket.
Prescribed:
* Arnica 200C every 4 hours for 24 hours for swelling and trauma.
* This was followed with ledum 30C 3 x daily for 3–4 days to speed up recovery.
* Note: If there is pain in the eyeball, consider Symphytum 30C 3 x daily until pain subsides.
