Virus attacks immune system, specifically T-cells withCD4 receptors
Weakens immune system
Increase susceptibility to opprtunitistic infections and cancers

Any blood exposure
Use gloves
use mask and eye protection
Use gown
Refrain from direct contact if YOU have an open wound
HIV Lab testing
Blood antibody tests (6weeks to tell)
CD4 count (50-1500 cells/mm3) increase is good, decrease is bad
Viral load (50-500000/mL) decrease is good, increase is bad
AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome)
Developed to identify advanced HIV progression
CD4 count <200/mm3
1 or more 26 indicator conditions
Medical Management

Dyslipidemia
Osteopenia/ osteoporosis
Osteonecrosis
PT management
Education
- energy conservation techniques
- expectations
- pain manamgent
Symptom management
Managing secondary complications (de conditioning, weakness, fatigue)
Exercise Prescription (ROM, aerobic, resistance)
