Beginning or puberty:
Breast budding in females
Testicular enlargement in males
what are the stages of puberty in females?
beings ages 8-14.
begins with breast buds, then pubic hair, then menstrual periods (last) around 2 years after the start of puberty.
what are the stages of puberty in males?
Beings age 9-15.
Begins with enlargement of the testicles, then the penis. then scrotal skin darkening, then pubic hair, then deepening of the voice.
what are the adrenal hormones responsible for?
pubic and axillary hair
what is the equivalent of menarche in girls?
facial hair and shaving.
what are the hormones involved in puberty?
Hypothalamus - GnRH
Pituitary gland - LH and FSH
Gonads (testicles and ovaries) - testosterone and oestrogen.
what is the predicted height for males?
Mums height + dads height +14cm /2.
what is the predicted height for females?
mums height + dads height -14cm /2.
what is short stature?
a height more than 2 SD below average for weight and sex.
= being below the 2nd centile.
