what is goal setting?
A
method for athletes to set themselves targets they want to achieve and allow them to track their progress

what are the 3 goal types?
A
- outcome goals (concerned with the end result)
- performance goals (concerned with the athletes overall performance)
- process goals (concerned with athletes skill execution to improve performance)

what does goal setting do?
A
- increase attentional focus
- increase task persistence
- increase confidence and self efficacy
- decrease arousal and anxiety
- aid performance monitoring

what are the SMARTER principles?
A
S - specific (to what they need to do)
M - measurable (rate how well their progress is going)
A - achievable (challenging in range of athletes capabilities)
R - record (keep track of progress)
T - time (set time to when goal should be achieved)
E - evaluative (how and when it was achieved)
R - repeat (if not achieved try again refining a few steps)
