what are the 3 goal types?

A
  1. outcome goals (concerned with the end result)
  2. performance goals (concerned with the athletes overall performance)
  3. process goals (concerned with athletes skill execution to improve performance)

  • increase attentional focus
  • increase task persistence
  • increase confidence and self efficacy
  • decrease arousal and anxiety
  • aid performance monitoring

what are the SMARTER principles?

A

S - specific (to what they need to do)
M - measurable (rate how well their progress is going)
A - achievable (challenging in range of athletes capabilities)
R - record (keep track of progress)
T - time (set time to when goal should be achieved)
E - evaluative (how and when it was achieved)
R - repeat (if not achieved try again refining a few steps)
