To evaluate reflux esophagitis
Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD)
Obtain tissue sample for biopsy
Dilate strictures and check for complication such as Barrett’s Esophagus

What to monitor?
Gag reflex
Abnormal change of the cells present in the LES and the lining thickens
Barrett’s Esophagus
Measures the rhythmic muscle contractions (peristalsis) that occur in the esophagus when swallowing and LES pressure
Esophageal Manometry or Motility Test
Most accurate method
Allows for observation of the frequency of reflux episodes and their associated symptoms
Placement of small catheter through the nose into the distal esophagus
24hr Ambulatory Esophageal pH Monitoring
