Fluids Flashcards
What is the formula for density?
Density = mass / volume
Units: kg/ m^3
What is specific gravity?
Specific gravity is the density in relation to the density of water.
Px/ PH2O
What is the formula for pressure?
Pressure is equal to the force / area.
N/ m^2 are the units.
What is the density of water?
1000kg/m^3, 1g/ml.
What is the formula for pressure of an object caused by a fluid, or the gauge pressure.
Pressure = depth(gravity)(density of fluid)
the force felt is due to the weight of the fluid above the object.
How do you calculate the total pressure of an object under water?
Patm + Pfluid.
Patm + gph.
How do you calculate buoyant force?
Force = density of the fluid ( Volume displaced) ( gravity)
How can you calculate the volume of an object?
Submerge it in water. The amount of fluid displaced will be equal to the volume of the object.
Why does an object float?
It is less dense then the fluid and therefore will float.
How do you calculate % submerged?
density object/ density fluid FOR SUBMERGED.
How do you calculate S.g for sunken objects?
Weight/ Buoyant Force.
Buoyant force is weight- apparent force.
Describe surface tension of water
Surface tension pulls together the water molecules at the surface of the fluid.
What is Poiseille’s Principle?
Q = pi(r)^4 [P1-P2]/ 8nL
If you change the radius then it is ^4 the change.
What is the formula for fluid continuity?
AV= AV.
What is Bernolui’s equation?
P + pdh + .5mp^2= constant
Increase velocity, decreases pressure
