Epinephrine Flashcards
Indications
Cardiac Arrest, Severe bronchospasm, symptomatic bradycardia, hypotension unresponsive to other therapyy
Contraindications
Hypothermia
Precautions
Potentiates other sympathomimetic, reacts with alkaline solutions such as sodium bicarbonate and should not be mixed with alkaline agents
Adverse effects
Hypertension, ventricular dysrhythmias, tachycardia, nausea and vomiting
Adult Dose
Cardiac arrest
Epinephrine ( 1mg/1:10,000) IVP/IO
Allergic reaction
Epinephrine (1:1,000) 0.01 mg/kg SQ not to exceed 0.5ml
Pediatri Dose
Cardiac Arrest
Epinephrine (0.01 mg/kg 1:10,000) IV/IO
Allergic reaction
Epinephrine 1;1,000 at 0.01 ml/kg SQ - max dose 0.3ml - IM IF SHOCK
Epinephrine 1:10,000 at 0.1 ml/kg slow IVP
Special considerations
Raising blood pressure and increasing heart rate may cause myocardial ischemia and increased myocardial oxygen demand
Use extreme caution with patients >35 years old or patients with cardiac history who are having an allergic reaction less it is true anaphylaxis with acute airway compromise as it may precipitate acute coronary syndrome
