Mechanism of Action

A

Stimulates beta-2 adrenergic receptors of the brochures. Bronchodilation begins within 5 to 15 minutes after inhalation. Peak effect occurs in 30-120 minutes.

Indications

A

Asthma, broncho spasm (wheexing) associated with COPD

A

Known hypersensitivity, symptomatic tachycardia

Precautions

A

Monitor patients vital signs and EKG. Should be used with caution in patents with hyperthyroidism or coronary artery disease

Adverse Effects

A

Tachycardia, palpitations, peripheral vasodilation, tremors, nervousness, headache, sore throat, PVCs, nausea, and vomiting, Bronchospasm may worsen in rare situations due to patient tolerance or hypersensitivity.

Adult Dose

A

2.5mg/3ml NS updraft: connect to 6-8lpm of Oxygen (repeat x2 unless patient condition markedly deteriorates)
