Mechanism of action
Interacts with GABA receptor complex
Indications
Anxiety, seizure activity
Contraindications
Known hypersensitivity to benzodiazepines. Severe respiratory insufficiency unless being mechanically ventilated. Hepatic and/or Renal failure
Precautions
Use caution with administration of other CNS depressants i.e. ETOH, narcotics, barbiturates, MAO, inhibitors and other antidepressants.
Adverse Effects
Respiratory depression, hypotension, paradoxical reaction
Adult dose
0.02-0.1 mg/kg, IVP
Pediatric dose
0.02-0.1 mg/kg, IVP
Special considerations
Resuscitative equipment for respiration support should be readily available
Protect from sunlight
Store in refrigerator
