Clocks cellular histamine receptors
Indications
Allergic reaction.anaphylaxis
Contraindications
Known hypersensitivity to Diphenhydramine; administration to newborn or premature infants; nursing mothers
Precautions
Considerable caution in patients with acute narrow angle glaucoma; stenosis or obstructive diseases of the GI tract; bronchial asthma; hyperthyroidism
Adverse effects
May cause paradoxical CNS excitation, seizures, palpitations, thickening of bronchial secretions, sedation, dry mouth
Adult Dose
12.5-25 mg; IV/ IM in absence of IV
Pediatric Dose
1.0 mg/kg IV/ IM - Max dose of 25mg
Special considerations
In anaphylaxis, used as a 2nd line treatment after Epinephrine
