Mechanism of Action
Increases force of contraction of diaphragmatic muscles through enhancement of calcium uptake through adenosine - mediated channels. Also supresses airway stimuli and relaxes smooth muschle
Indications
Prolonged asystole from cardiac arrest or adensine administration
Contraindications
Sensitivity to Aminophylline
Adverse Effects
Nausea, vomiting, tremors, tachycardia, seizures.
Incompatabilites/ Drug Interactions
DO NOT MIX WITH OTHER DRUGS. DO NOT ADMINISTER IF SOLUTION IS CLOUDY OR CRYSTALS PRESENT
Routs of Administration
IV IO
Onset of Action
Onset less than 15 min, duration 4.5 hrs
Adult Dose
500mg IV over 2-3 min
Pediatric dose
5mg/kg IV over 2-3 min
Special considerations
Watch for hypotension with rapid administration.
