EOC REVIEW: Photosynthesis & Cellular Respiration Flashcards
What is the equation for photosynthesis?
CO2 + H2O + Photons yields C6H12O6 + O2
What is the difference between thylakoids and granums?
Thylakoids are individual disks; granum are stacks of thylakoids
What are the steps in the light reaction?
The light energy excites electrons from water; the electrons get excited and cross the ETC; hydrogens move across the membrane to power ATP synthase; ATP is made.
What does water release?
Hydrogen, oxygen, and electrons
What are the two parts of photosynthisis?
The Light Dependent Reaction and the Light Independent Reaction (Calvin Cycle)
The process by which light energy is converted to chemical energy
Photosynthesis
The process by which cells get energy from food
Cellular Respiration
A substance that absorbs light
Pigment
The primary pigment involved in photosynthesis
Chlorophyll
The series of proteins that carry electrons through the membrane of the mitochondria
Electron Transport Chain
The making of carbon dioxide into organic carbon compounds
Calvin Cycle
Making 2 pyruvate from one glucose
Glycosis
Stack of green pigment-containing discs that capture the sun’s energy
Thylakoid
A process that requires oxygen
Aerobic
A process that does not require oxygen
Anaerobic
The cycle that pyruvate enters after glycosis
Krebs Cycle
Liquid inside of a chloroplast; the light-independent reactions take place here
Stroma
What are light absorbing substances?
Pigments
What is glycosis?
A process where glucose is broken down into two pyruvate
Where does aerobic Respiration occur?
mitochondria
Carbon dioxide is turned into sugars in the calvin cycle, which requires…
ATP and NADPH.
The net amount of ATP produced during glycolysis is
2
The approximate total of ATP produced during aerobic cellular respiration is
36
