EOC REVIEW: BOL- Kingdoms of Life Flashcards
What is taxonomy?
Domain, Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species
What are the three domains of life?
Bacteria, Archaea, and Eukarya
Characteristics of Bacteria
Prokaryotes; peptidoglycan cell wall
Characteristics of Archaea
Prokaryotes, cell walls with no peptidoglycan, closest thing to the first living organism
Characteristics of Eukarya
Those with cell walls do not have peptidoglycan; cells contain a nucleus; eukaryotes
What are the kingdoms of eukarya?
Protista, Fungi, Plantae, Animalia
What are the characteristics of protsita?
Single cellular (most times); algae
What are the characteristics of Fungi?
Single or multicellular; cell wall with chitin; cells are not organized into tissue; they do not carry out photosynthesis and they obtain nutrients through absorbtion
Characteristics of Plantae
Multicellular; cell wall; cells are organized into tissue; they obtain nutrients by photosyntheiss and absorbtion
Animalia Characteristics
Mutlicellular; no ccell wall; cells organized into tissue; they do not carry out photosynthesis and obtain nutrients primarily by ingestion
Kingdoms of Archaea
Archaebacteria
These organisms can live in the harshest environments on Earth, ranging from sulfurous hot springs to very salty lakes
Kingdom Archaebacteria
Kingdoms of Bacteria
Eubacteria
