Summarize the first case (aortic valve replacement)
Patient is 62 years old woman and has aortic valve stenosis resulting in the patient feeling lightheaded, shortness of breath, and chest pain. It was hard for the heart to pump blood through the valve, blood was going back to the lungs.
Minimally invasive aortic valve replacement
Did Dr. Lee call the first patient’s family member?

What happened in the second case?
74 year old man- tight aortic valve and the mitral valve is now leaking
Found on the echocardiogram- calcifications
Discovered on the electrocardiography- that the mitral valve had to be replaced
Tight Aortic Valve so Mitral Valve is leaking
Small incisive on the right side, replace the aortic valve and replace/ repair mitral valve
What is the importance of high volume?
more you do, more you are referral- personal relationships are maintained
How did Dr. Lee communicate with the second patient’s family members?
met them in the room
When did the surgery for the third patient start?

What happened to the 3rd patient?
Mitral Valve repair- not fixed- heart gets bigger and weaker

Coronary Artery Bypass
Incsion down the middle of the chest
Artery of the left chest and the vein in the leg- used to bypasses on the heart; don’t touch blockages
CABG
What did Dr. Lee do after completing surgery on all 4 patients?
He did rounds in the ICU (checked on them)
Why does Dr. Lee do a time out?
It is a safety check and to make sure the give the safest and optimal care.
