Medication to treat minor to moderate pain without loss of consciousness

What are anesthetics?
Drug that produces a loss of sensation or a loss of consciousness

What are Anticonvulsants?
Substance that reduces the excitability of neurons and therefore prevents the uncontrolled neuron activity associated with seizures
What are some Anticonvulsants?
Carbamazepine, Tegretol; phenobarbital, Nembutal
What are Dopaminergic Drugs?
Group of medications to treat Parkinsonś disease by either replacing the dopamine that is lacking or increasing the strength of the dopamine that is present
What are some Dopaminergic drugs?
levodopa; L-dopa, Larodopa; levodopa & cardbidopa, Sinemet
What are Hypnotics?
Drug that promotes sleep
What are some Hypnotics?
Secobarbital, Seconal; temazepam, Restoril
What are Narcotic Analgesics? What is it also called?
Drug used to treat severe pain; has the potential to be habit forming if taken for a prolonged time. Also called opiates.
What are some examples of Narcotic Analgesics?
Morphine sulfate, MS Contin; oxycodone, OxyContin; meperidine, Demerol
What are Sedatives?
Drug that has a relaxing or calming effect
What are some Sedatives?
Amobarbital, Amytal; butabarbital, Butisol
What are anti-psychotics used for?
Schizophrenia
