How to make skin incision and removal of skin
Bone structures are used as landmarks
Use scapel and make one sharp incision
One side of skin is clasped by a rest tooth
Skin is then separated from SC tissue by sharp dissection with scalpel
Why does fat tissue have to be removed?
To expose muscle
How to remove fat tissue?
Sharp dissection with mayo scissors or scalpel blade
What may you need to remove before dissecting the muscle?
The fascia
What is a scalpel used for?
Skin incisions
Cutting through connective tissues
When are scissors used?
For deeper/ more careful incisions such as near blood vessels or nerves
Can be used for push cutting for loose CT
When are forceps used/
To grasp, hold and stabilise tissue
When are artery forceps used?
To clamp blood vessels
How to attach scalpel blade to scalpel
Hold scalpel hand in non dominant hand
Have bevel facing up
Hold blade (with needle holders) on top side away from cutting edge
