Syphilis
Symptoms:
- Chancre (open wound)
- Rash
- Cardiovascular, Gummas, Neurosyphilis
HRG:
Homosexual men, people who have sex for drugs or money.
Lyme Disease
Symptoms:
1. EM rash (painless, no itching, bullseye) 2. heart arrhythmia, nero - facial paralysis, meningitis
HRG: outdoorsy people
Leptospirosis
Symptoms:
Kidney & Liver damage, + subclinical
HRG:
Occupational
Pseudomonas
HRG:
Nosocomial, Cystic Fibrosis, IV Drug users
Legoinnaire’s Disease (pneumonia)
HRG:
Elderly/Smokers
Symptoms:
high fever, chills, coughing
Brucellosis
HRG:
occupational, ingestion
Symptoms:
Resp failure, enlarged organs (liver, spleen, lymph nodes)
Pertussis (Whooping Cough)
HRG:
unvaccinated under 1 year old
Symptoms:
1-2 weeks: cold like.
1-6 weeks: acute violent cough w/ w/out vomiting.
100 days: long convalescent cough
Gonorrhea, Urethritis
HRG:
multiple sexual partners
Symptoms:
Men - local, pain/pus drip.
Women - cryptic symptoms, scarring, PID, sterility, ectopic preg
Meningitis
Symptoms:
violent inflammation of brain, nausea, vomiting, confusion, drowsy, photophobia, coma
Peptic Ulcer Disease, Gastric Cancer
Symptoms:
Pain, Bloody Diarrhea
Gastroenteritis
HRG:
young, old, immunodeficient.
Symptoms:
Diarrhea (watery, sticky, bloody), Abdominal Pain, Fever,
RARE: Gillian Barre Syndrom (flaccid paralysis starting at foot and moving up)
Cholera
Symptoms:
Severe diarrhea for 1 week, NO fever, dehydration, organ failure, muscle cramps, hypoglycemia arrhythmia, acidosis (increases urin pH) shock and death
UTI
Sympotms:
Urinate frequently, painful burning
Hemorrhagic Colitis, Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome
HRG:
the usual
Symptoms:
HC - bloody diarrhea, severe pain, no fever HUS - watery diarrhea, bloody, severe pain, vomiting, hemorrhaging, blood in urine (dialysis), hypoglycemia, neurological.
Diarrhea or Traveler’s Disease
Symptoms:
Watery Diarrhea, cramps, headache
Shigella HUS - hemolytic uritic syndrome
Symptoms:
same symptoms as EHEC + blood, pus, mucus in stools
Shigellosis (sever dysentery)
Symptoms:
1st fever, then cramps, dysentery, blood/pus. in children, freq begins with convulsions
