Deltoscapular & Pectoral Region Flashcards
Identify the deltoscapular vasculature

Identify the following strucures aiding in scapular anastomosis

What 3 structures form the quadrangular space?
Humerus, teres major, teres minor, long head of the triceps
What forms the triangular space of the shoulder?
Long head of the triceps, teres minor, teres major.
What nerve and vasculature can we find in the quadrangular space?
axilary nerve, porsterior circumflex humeral artery and vein
What vascularture can we find in the triangular space?
circumflex scapular artery
Identify the structures

Teres minor and major, quadrangular space, axillary nerve, long head of the triceps

Are the deltoid and supraspinatus adductors or abductors?

they are important abductors

What does a torn rotator cuff consist of?
it consists of a lasceration of the supraspinatus or in the teres minor (in the case of baseball players)
Name the three ligaments that hold in place the acromion and the clavicle together.
1) Coracoacromial ligament
2) Acromioclavicular ligament
3) Coracoclavicular ligament
Identify the 3 ligaments

What does a shoulder separaton consist of?
shoulder separation consists of damage to the acromioclavicular joint. It occurs as a result of a downward force being applied to the superior part of the acromion, either by something striking the top of the acromion or by falling directly on it.
What does a shoulder dislocation consist of?
A shoulder dislocation occurs when the humerus separates from the scapula at the glenohumeral joint.
What is the condition adehesive capsulitis or commonly known as “frozen joint”?
It happens when the shoulder capsule, the connective tissue surrounding the glenohumeral joint of the shoulder, becomes inflamed and stiff, greatly restricting motion.
Name the external muscles of the pectoral region.
pectoralis major, pectoralis minor, subclavius, serratus anterior
What innervates the pectoralis major?
lateral pectoral nerve, medial pectoral nerve, the clavicular head: C5 adn C6, sternocostal head: C7, C8 and T1
What innervates the pectoralis minor?
Medial pectoral nerve C8 and T1
What innervates the subclavius?
nerve from the upper trunk of the brachial plexus (C5, C6)
What innervates the serratus anterior?
long thoracic nerve (C5, C6, C7)
Whats the function of the pectoralis major?
flexes, adducts, and rotates the arm medially.
The clavicular part draws the arm or shoulder upward, forward, or medialward.
The sternocostal part draws the arm or shoulder forward, medialward, and downward.
Whats the funciton of the pectoralis minor?
Draws the scapula forward, downward, and rotates it laterally.
It also raises the 3rd, 4th, 5th ribs in forced inspiration.
Whats the funciton of the subclavius?
Draws the shoulder forward or downward.
Whats the function of the serratus anterior?
It rotates the scapula, protracts it.
What muscles contribute to shoulder joint stability?
Rotator Cuff and Tendon of Biceps
