Meds to avoid in pts w/ OSA
Sedatives (alcohol, benzos, antihistamines)
Shortly after birth, Stridor, wheezing, respiratory distress despite medical therapy
Vascular ring (compromises upper airway & trachea) - key: despite medical therapy
Pulmonary CF tx
Beta2 agonists, DNAase1, hypertonic saline, physiotherapy, azithromycin
Sweat chloride test indicative of CF
> 60 mEq/L
Tx Epiglottotis
Minimize anxiety, IV antibx, Intubation ASAP
Tx Croup
O2, steroids, racemic epi
Trauma pt respiratory distress CXR pleural effusion
Assume hemothorax - chest tube
Causes of transudative pleural effusion
CHF, nephrotic syndrome, cirrhosis
Size pneumothorax requires chest tube placement
> 15%
Med used prior to intubation in head injury pts
Lidocaine
CXR finding indicative of croup
Steeple sign
CXR finding indicative of epiglottitis
Thumbprint sign
Tx RSV bronchiolitis
O2, albuterol or racemic epi (use whatever works, if neither works then discontinue); NOT use of steroids or ribavirin
Lecithin:Sphingomyelin ratio indicating fetal lung maturity
> 2.0 or Phosphatidyl glycerol
PE classic EKG findings
S1q3t3, wide s in lead 1, large q and inverted t in lead 3
