What is virtousity?

What is the path to coaching mastery?
Chasing virtuosity.
What 6 things do you need to be an effective traner?
- Teaching
- Seeing
- Correcting
- Group and/or gym managment
- Presence and Attitude
- Demonstration
What is TEACHING?
The ability to effectively articulate and teach the mechanics of each movement. (This includes the ability to focus on major points of performance before more sublte or nuanced once and the ability to change instruction based on the atheltes needs and ability)
What is SEEING?
The ability to discern good from poor movement mechanics and to identify gross and sublte faults where the ahtlet is in motion or static.
What is CORRECTING?
The ability to facilitate better mechncies for an athlete using visual, verbal, and/or tactile clues. (this includes the ability to traiage—prioritize—faults in the order of importance, which includes an understanding of how multiple faults are related).
CORRECTING hinges on the trainers ability to what 4 things?
- use successful cues
- know mulitple corrections for each fault
- triage faulty movmenet
- balance critique with praise
What is GROUP MANAGEMENT?
The ability to organize and manage, both at a micro level (within each class) and at the amacro gym level.
What is PRESENCE AND ATTITUDE?
The ability to create a psoitve and engaging learning environment. The trainer shows empathy for atheltes and create rapport.
What is DEMONSTRATION?
The ability to provide athlets with an accurate visual example of the movement at hand. (demonstration also includes leading by example: a trainer should follow his or her own advice and be an inspiration to clients)
What 3 important principles should guide trainers at all levels?
1) master the fundamentals
2) limit the scope
3) pursue excellence
