Olfactory nerve
-function: smell
-from olfactory epithelium
-olfactory foramen
-goes to the olfactory bulb
Optic nerve
-vision
-from the retina
-the foramen is the optic canal
-goes to the diencephalon then to occipital lobe
Nerves 3 4 and 6
Move eye ball
Oculomotor nerve
-control eye movement/ eye muscles
-from the mesencephalon
-foramen is the superior orbital fissure
- goes to the extra ocular eye muscles
Trochlear nerve
-control eye muscles
-from the mesencephalon
-foramen is the superior orbital fissure
-goes to the extra ocular eye muscles
Trigéminal nerve
-facial sensation of ophthalmic (sensation from forehead to eyeballs), maxillary (lower eyelid upper lip and cheek)and mandibular (mastication and teeth sensation)
-from the opthalmic, maxillary and mandibular nerves
-superior orbital fissure, foramen rotundamente and foramen Ovalle
-maxillary and opthalmic goes to the pons
-mandibular goes to masseter and temple
abducens nerve
-control eye movements
-originate at the pons
-superior orbital fissure (slit in the back of they eye)
-goes to the lateral rectus eye muscle
facial nerve
-moves all muscles except the chewing muscles
-sensation of the face, taste on the front 2/3 of tongue, control muscles of the face
-from the taste buds (sensory) and the pons (motor)
-internal acoustic meatus
-sensory goes to the pons and motor foes to muscles of the face
-2 major branches
vestibulocochlear nerve
-for balance and hearing
-cochlea is hearing in the ear vestibule is balance
-from the vest. and cochlea
-internal acoustic meatus
-goes to the pons
smalles bone in the body
ossicles
glossopharyngeal nerve
-tongue pain and swallowing
-back half of the tongue
-taste in back of the tongue
-from the salivary gland
-jugular foramen
-goes to the pons (sensory), parotid salivary gland (visceral motor) and pharyngeal muscles to swallow (somatic motor)
vagus nerve
-info from organs (sensory) and sends info to organs (motor)
-from the organs or medulla oblongota (motor)
-also swallowing
-jugular foramen
-sensory goes to medulla oblongota
-somatic motor goes to palate and pharynx muscles
-visceral motor goes to respiratory cardiovascular and digestive organs
accessory nerve
-control sternocleidomastoid, trapezius, palate, pharynx, larynx muscles
-from the spinal cord and medulla oblongota
-jugular foramen
-internal and external branch
-int branch goes to muscles of the palate, pharynx, and larynx
-ext. goes to sternocleidomastoid and trapezius muscles
hypoglossal nerve
-control tongue movement
-from the medulla oblongota
-hypoglossal canal
-goes to tongue muscles
