Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) Flashcards
1
Q
coronary artery disease (CAD)
A
- NOT restricted to coronary artery (means coronary circuit)
- one or more branches of coronary circuit has advanced atherosclerosis –> can’t provide blood to heart cells (ischemia) –> l/o heart Fx
2
Q
types
A
- chronic ischemic heart disease
- acute coronary syndromes (ACS)
3
Q
chronic ischemic heart disease
A
- chronic
- ischemic = blood still coming in, but not enough for O2 demand
4
Q
results of chronic ischemic heart disease
A
- stable angina
- variant angina
- silent myocardial ischemia (asymptomatic; ischemia in coronary circuit)
- microvascular angina (exercise-induced; angiogram looks normal –> hard to Dx)
5
Q
acute coronary syndromes (ACS)
A
- unstable angina
- myocardial infarction
6
Q
progression of ACS
A
- unstable angina (plaque disruption & platelet aggregation)
- non-ST-segment elevation MI
- ST-segment elevation MI
