Q

What is clostridium sordelli?

A

Produces three toxins, lecithinas, oxygen-labile haemolysin and fibrinolysin, it also produces a major lethal toxin referred to as a beta-toxin

Q

How do you culture clostridium?

A

Agar containing blood is incubated anaerobically at 35-37 degrees for 40-48 hours
* Egg Yolk agar is incubated anaerobically
* Can also use Robertsons cooked meat broth

Q

What is the epsilon toxin?

A

Protoxin activated in the intestine by proteases, this toxin increases gut permeability and damages the vascular endothelium

16
Q

What is the iota toxin?

A

A protoxin- the pathogenesis is not well understood

17
Q

What is clostridium tetani associated with?

A

Tetanus

18
Q

What is clostridum perfringens/ difficile associated with?

A

Enteritis

19
Q

What is c.novyi usually associated with?

A

Sudden death, whenever total mortality rises above 4% this should be considered

20
Q

What causes tyzzer disease?

A

It is caused by clostridium piliforme and caharcterised by profuse watery diarrohea, anorexia, dehydration, lethargy and staining of the hindquarters

21
Q

What is mucoid enteropathy?

A

distinct diarroheal disease of rabbits characterised by minimal inflammation, hypersecretion and accumulation of mucus in the small and large intestine
