Bel canto

A

style of italian opera. Lyrical lines, seemingly effortless technique, florid delivery. The most important part of a bel canto opera was the voice. “Rossini crescendo” building up excitement. Orchestra and chorus played a bigger role in advancing the plot. Smoother transitions between.
Aria have two sections cantabile and cabaletta. The cantabile expresses relativel calm moods and the cabaletta more active feelings such as anger or joy. Cabalettta is often repeated with ornaments. Ex una voce poco fa. Some have a middle sections called the tempo di mezzo which is usually a transition or interruption by another character which changes the other characters mood.
