What is workflow design?
The process of figuring out what tasks are needed to make a product or provide a service before deciding who will do those tasks
What is organizational structure?
The organized system of relationships and connections between different jobs within an organization.
Two dimensions of organizational structure
centralization, decision-making is a hierarchy, and compartmentalization, work units are grouped together based on similarity
functional structure
high levels of centralization, very efficient with little redundancy
divisional structure
low levels of centralization
What is a job analysis?
the process of getting detailed information about a job that is the building block for HR programs

a common language that generalizes across jobs to describe abilities, work style, work activities, and work context

focuses on getting the work done
