Ch 46 Materials Flashcards
Hysteresis
Change in temp that causes the reversible hydrocolloid material to transform from one physical state to another
First bath for hydrocolloid
Liquifies the semi solid material at 212 degrees. It’s called a hydrocolloid conditioner.
Second bath of hydrocolloid
150 degrees serves as a storage bath
Third bath of hydrocolloid
110 degrees for tempering after placed in tray
Where does what material go after the second bath
Light-bodied material placed in syringe; heavy-bodied placed in the tray moved to tempering bath
Regular/heavy-bodied materials/tray types
Thicker than light-bodied. Fill tray. Stiffness forces light bodied into close contact with prepped tooth for accurate impression
How long do you wait before pouring models for stress relaxation to occur
20-30 min
Agar
Gelatin-type material derived from seaweed
Alginate
Irreversible hydrocolloid material used for taking preliminary impressions
Base
Foundation or the basic ingredient of a material
Border molding/muscle trimming
Process of using fingers to contour a closer adaption of the margins of an impression while still in the mouth
Catalyst/accelerator
Substance that modifies of increases the rate of a chemical reaction
Centric
Having an object centered
Colloid
A suspension of particles in a dispersion medium such as water. Sol and gel
Elastomeric
Materials having elastic properties from rubber
