cellular respiration Flashcards
what is cellular respiration
breaking down food and making it into energy
how does cellular break down food
takes stored energy and make usable energy
what is Aerobic
need oxygen
what is anaerobic
no oxygen
essentially how does cellular respiration compare to photosynthesis
its the opposite processes
what does glycolysis
to split glycogen
( reverses the Calvin cycle)
what are the 3 steps of cellular respiration
- glycolysis
- kreds cycle
- E.C.T
whats the cellular resperation formula
do you need oxygen to do glycolysis
no, its anaerobic
what does glycolysis need
- sugar
- ATP
what is the frst step of Glycolysis
have 2 atp molecules and take offf the phoshates and add them to the glusose
what is the second step of glycolosis
the glucose is broken doen into 2 3-carbons molecuses
(G3P)
What is the third step of glycosis
G3P release e- and H+ to an electron carrier
Phosphates removed (steps 1 & 4) and added to
ADP to form 4 ATP
6) Pyruvate has been made (3-C molecule)
7) 2 ATP are needed to start process, so net ATP = 2
What is the Kreds cycle
aerobic
how do you start the Krebs cycle
Pyruvate loses a carbon as CO2
2) Acetyl CoA (2-C molecule) combines w/4-c
molecule to form citric acid (6-C molecule)
3) C & e- released making CO2 and NADH
4) 5-C loses another C and makes NADH and ATP
5) 4-C molecule is recycled making FADH2 and
NADH
