Cardiac System Flashcards
heart is located in what mediastinum?
Middle Mediastinum
- located between the lungs inside the pericardium, close to the midline of the body
Heart
- a hollow, cone-shaped organ the size of a closed fist.
fibro-serous sac that encloses the heart
Pericardium
Characterized by inflammation of the pericardium
Acute Pericarditis
thick middle muscular layer that forms the bulk of the heart wall, consists of cardiac muscle cells arranged in a spiral manner with intercalated disks.
Myocardium
Fibrous strands that attach to the cusps of the atrioventricular valves
Chordae tendinae
Cone-shaped muscles that terminate in the tendinous cords.
Papillary muscles
cells that are faintly striated, branching cells that are connected by intercalated discs.
Cardiac muscle
- innervated by the autonomic nervous system, but contracts spontaneously without any nerve supply
SA node is found at the right atrium but stimulating both right and left atria
Read and remember
Called the pacemaker because the rate of production of impulse (rhythmicity) is more in ____ node that in other parts
SA Node
- small strip of modified cardiac muscle
- situated in the superior part of lateral wall of right atrium, just below the opening of superior vena cava.
a network of fibers that arises in the AV node and continues along the right interventricular septum, also called the atrioventricular Bundle
BUNDLE OF HIS
- divides in the interventricular septum to form right and left bundle branches.
the part of the heart from which the impulses for heartbeat are produces normally.
Pacemaker
normal conduction pattern becomes asynchronous. Efficiency of the heart is diminished.
Arrhythmia
Inner layer that consists of endothelial tissue with small blood vessels and bundles of smooth muscles. Homologous with the intima of the veins.
Endocardium
