Includes:
Tone-is he flopped over, parents have to move him
Interactiveness-does he with parent
Consolability- comforted by parent?
Look/Gaze-does he look sick, zones out, alertness
Speech- speech up to par for age, does he speak
From the triangle, what is Circulation
Includes:
Pallor
Mottling- bluish color scattered on body
Cyanosis-lips are blue and nail beds white
From the triangle, what is Work of breathing
Includes:
Breath sounds-can you hear breathing from the door, wheezing
Positioning-is he leaning over, open mouth breathing, tripodding
Retractions- muscles moving on chest
Flaring-nose widening
Apnea/Gasping
What information do you get from parents
Long term history of patient
Difference between adult and children patients
Children have differences in physiology, development and cognition
Head to toe may not work on kids as they can’t sit still or cooperate
Always do painful procedures last

Children are faster!
Increased:
RR= 20-40
Oxygen consumption
fluid intake= 1500 ml
Fluid output =120 ml
Cardiac rate= 120

Physical differences
Larger head, thinner cranium, smaller airways, lower blood volume, thinner skin, less fat and muscle, more flexible bones, lower immunity, higher metabolic rate, flatter ribs, higher respiration rate

K=Low grade fever, headache, cold like symptoms, rash all overweigh lace net like look
RSV
Headache, stuffy nose with thick discharge, sore throat, difficulty breathing, and cough
Pink eye
Symptoms may vary, eye discomfort, redness, discharge, sensitivity to light, heavy feeling eye
