Excess cytokine release –> leakage of plasma
Water/Proteins Escape to extravascular space –> hypovolemic shock
Why are second Dengue infections worse?
Second time around virus is bound by antibody
This increases macrophage intake

Treatment of Dengue?
Intensive Supportive Therapy
Prevention?
No vaccine because protection could cause the most serious forms of the disease.
What is unique about the Yellow Fever Timeline
Abrupt Onset, 48 hr remission, then toxic phase
Initial symptoms of Yellow Fever?
Initial – Fever and Chills, Severe Headache, Back Pain, Myalgia, Nausea, Vomiting
Toxic phase of Yellow Fever?
Toxic Phase – Higher Fever, Back Pain, Ab Pain, Black Vomit, nose bleeding, purpuric hemorrhages
Late stages of yellow fever?
Hypotnsion, Shock, Acidosis, Tubular Necrosis, Myocardial Dysfunction, Arrythmia, Confusion, Coma
