anatomy of 7 systems Flashcards
What are the levels of organisation of the human body and describe them
Cellular level - the basic unit of all living things except viruses
Tissue level - A group of similar cells working together to perform one or more specific functions
Organ level - two or more tissues working in combination to perform specific tasks
Organ system level - organs interact in organ systems
Epithelial tissue
- Covers the surface of the body
- Found in the outer layer of skin, lining of body cavities, blood and lymph vessels
- Some are specialized for secretion
- Protect the exposed and internal surfaces from abrasion, dehydration, and destruction by chemical or biological agents
- Can proliferate to produce new cells when cells become damaged
Origin of epithelial tissue
Develop from all 3 of the embryonic germ layers
- Embryonic ectoderms give rise to the epidermis
- Embryonic mesoderm gives rise to the lining of the heart and blood vessels as well as some of the body organs
- Embryonic endoderm gives rise to the lining of the respiratory tract and gastrointestinal tract
Connective tissue
- Connects all of the epithelial tissue to the rest of the body
- Most widely distributed tissue type
- Highly vascular and contain sensory receptors
- Develop from embryonic mesoderm
Specific functions of connective tissue
- Transporting fluid and dissolved material
- Protect delicate organs
- Defend the body against invading microorganisms
1) Where does nervous tissue develop
2) What is it specialized for
3) What percentage of nervous tissue is concentrated in the brain and spinal cord
1) embryonic ectoderm
2) conductive of electrical impulses from one region of body to another
3) 98%
What are the four regions in regional anatomy
- Thorax
- Abdomen and Pelvis
- Head and neck
- Limbs
What is the thorax
- region between neck and abdomen
- separated from the abdomen by the diaphragm
- bony thoracic cage
- Thoracic cavity
How are the limbs attached to trunk
- Upper limbs attached to trunk via pectoral girdle
- Lower limb attached to trunk via pelvic girdle
