- Assess their sleep patterns and identify what is interfering with their sleep
- Teach guided imagery or relaxation techniques, encourage privacy/darkness when trying to sleep, eliminate caffeine or other things that may affect sleep, the mother should sleep when the baby sleeps
- Help identify support people in the family to take care of the baby while the parents sleep
