  • More likely to have pre-existing medical conditions
  • Higher risk of spontaneous abortion and stillbirth
  • More likely to get gestational hypertension and diabetes
  • Higher risk of congenital anomalies
  • Increased risk of post-term pregnancy
  • Increased likelihood of induced labor
  • Increased risk of c-section, thromboembolism, infection from c-section
  • Increased risk of post-partum hemorrhage

Care Management

A
  • Continuous FHR and Contraction Monitoring can be Difficult
  • Larger OR tables, Extra-Large BP cuffs
  • Routine procedures require more time
  • TED Hose or Sequential Compression Devices (SCD)
  • Heparin prophylaxis to prevent DVT
  • Keep incisions clean and dry (wound healing can be more difficult)
