Q

Describe the MOA of ACE inhibitors

A

Inhibit angiotensin-converting enzyme
- ACE converts Angiotensin I to Angiotensin II
- Angiotensin II causes vasoconstriction and increases sympathetic input
- Decreasing angiotensin II also increase Na+ excretion by kidneys –> reduces blood volume

Outcome:
- Reduce peripheral vascular resistance (vasodilation)
- Increase venous capacitance

Venous capacitance - amount of blood in a vein at a specific pressure
