mistakes of the rump

A
  • wanted to settle old scores and undertook a purge of teh army, removing half of the serving officers
  • this damaged teh intergirty of the rump and peopel were unwilling to pay parliamentary taxes
  • they also mistreated monck, who has saved them, and wanted to reduce his poltical power - condeming him to just police london
  • however, he did police london but refused to withdraw from politics
  • he also ensured that those who were barred during the prides pruge of 1648 would be reinstated

  • made it more liekly that there would be a reisntated struart monarchy - theirlink witht he old consitution was clear
