feofees of improporations

they aimed to buy up improporations (the right of a layman to collect tithes and appoint a vicor to take the actus services)
laud supressed them, thinking they would stir up unrest
changes in conduct of services
serfvices were made uniform and had to adhere to the prayer book- bowing at the mention of jesus ect
* the altar table
* thorough
the altar table
elizabthan prayer book had the alter at the east end and brough into the body of the chruch for services (this was too inconvenient and never happened)
* laud wanted it **railed off ** and at the east end at all times
* this implied that communion was more like catolic mass

other changes to the church

* those who did not follow church laws were brought before a church court or the court of high commision
Opposition to laudism
- soem didnt mind the book of sports or church reforms
- some were offended or uneasy with the changes
- seemed to be moving in a popish direction
case of pymme, bastwick and burton
all members of genrty
tried in the star chamber for publishing attacks on the church
found guilty
had ears cut of, forced to pay a fine and life inprisonment
gentry oppositon to laudism
the case of pymme, bastwick and burton offended the gentry, who they believed shouldnt have recieved such a degreading punishment
also opposed laud due to blurred social distinctions, for example - genrty opposed book of sports as it threatened their law enforcement role by encouraging disorder
appeared to lead to popery
