visualisation of an idea through paper or software
sketch and formal drawing
sketch – brainstorm, idea generation
formal drawing – idea presentation. fixed rules etc as a design becomes more refined
perspective drawing
formal drawing technique. realistic, shows what the product will look like in a lifelike way.
looks nice for clients but cant get measurements, no detail
isometric drawing
object in 3d on 30/90/30 degree axis. amazing for manufacturers bcs stays true to size but requires certain skill
exploded isometric
how the parts fit together
at what stage would an exploded isometric usually be produced + when will it be used
at the final solution stage, used in the realisation stage
orthographic
2d views of objects that are used in the realisation stage. minimum 3 views.
clear and clean and international but you need the time and tools
scale drawings + examples
same shape but different size.
you know what you want to see as the end result but time consuming and theres no room for error.
architecture/dna model…
parts drawing
orthographic drawing of components separately – accurate but time + skill?
assembly drawing
shows how components fit together to make a whole drawing, usually in an exploded view
annotations
explain the thinking behind the image: label parts, describe purpose, record feedback
