1.2 Flashcards
psychological factor data
human factor data related to interpretations affected by the environment
what is psychological factor data good for
optimise user health, comfort, safety, performance
what is qualitative data used for
to find out the perception of people
what is quantitative data used for
for finding our physical factors
4 types of measurement scales
nominal
ordinal
interval
ratio
describe the nominal measurement scale type
qualitative, used to label variables that numbers cant measure
example: hair color - black; blonde; ginger
describe the ordinal measurement scale type
qualitative, classified w an order of ranking
example: rating a movie from 1 to 5
describe the interval measurement scale type
quantitative, has equally spaced intervals between values, can be negative
example: temperature, the distance between degrees is consistent
describe the ratio measurement scale type
quantitative, like interval data but has an absolute zero so no negative values
example: height, speed
how do u decide which scale of measure u should use
it depends on the nature of the data ur collecting + type of analysis youre conducting
human information processing system
automatic system a person uses to interpret information and react
what does HIPS stand for
human information processing system
factors that affect how we process info
age – too young and dont know/too old and forgot
strength – too weak for task
skills
health – not physically/mentally able to do the task
disability
what happens when the HIPS capacity is exceeded
the response rates decrease
environmental factors is…
set of psychological factors that affect human performance. depend on the environment human is in
list the environmental factors
- temperature – important for productivity
- sound – lower sound systems positively affect productivity etc
- light – can affect mental and physical conditions. affects ambience and mood
- texture – decor; lends character to workplace
- color – emotions; sense of warmth/coldness. we make connections w certain colors
- smell/taste – affect performance
- comfort – productivity, health
- humidity – impact on wellbeing and health, healthy = 30-50%
what do environmental factors have an effect on
comfort, alertness, perception
perception is
the way in which smth is interpreted
what does perception do to psychological factors data
it has an impact on the reliability of the data
why might psychological data not be reliable
perception has an influence on it
alertness is
the level of readiness/caution of an individual. being aware of whats happening around
methods of collecting psychological data
observation
surveys
testing
case studies
human info processing system
input - sensory - central - motor - output

research ethics
1 informed consent
2 right to withdraw
3 avoid deception
2 main categories of human error
- slips – result from automatic behaviour, subconscious mistakes
- mistakes – conscious deliberations
