10.4 Flashcards
what is quality management made up of
quality control
quality assurance
statistical process control
tolerance
allowable amount of variation within a particular quality. ranges depending on importance of component, what it needs to interact with
destructive testing
a part is tested and will likely be destroyed/physically altered to find its failure point
non destructive testing
product is tested to measure physical properties (eg weighing, checking dimensions – product is not damaged)
inspection
happens to check quality at different stages of the production process. random inspections + continuous monitoring
quality control
focused on product, detects errors, ensures expectations are met.
tolerances r defined at design stage. if exceeded – part is remade
waste eliminated as workers r accountable
quality assurance
focused on process, prevents errors. covers all activities, reduces defects/defected products reaching customers
statistical process control
uses statistical methods to ensure most efficient process. reduces waste, increases productivity, discovers potential problems within process. identifies where bottlenecking can occur etc, emphasis on early detection of problems
