3.1 Flashcards
conceptual modelling
model that exists in the mind, used to help understand ideas
how is a conceptual model a type of research
you confirm how well a concept meets specifications + gather user feedback therefore improve overall chances of success
advantages of conceptual modelling
- allow for client feedback
- learn from the mistakes made while modelling => reduce cost of error
- communicate function + aesthetics of a complex idea even for non designers etc
- explore possibilities without producing working prototype (so cost and time saved)
disadvantages of conceptual modelling
- simple => miss out on important detail
- may not represent final product (materials, proportions)
- durability may not allow it to be used by user
conceptual modelling tools
- graphical model
- physical model
- virtual model
graphical model
visualisation of an idea, usually on paper/through software – sketch, flow chart
physical model
smaller or larger tangible version that can be physically interacted with. clay/card, 3d printed…
virtual model
photorealistic cad models that can be interacted with, can be assembled through solid or surface modelling
system design
defining the architecture for a system to satisfy specified requirements (like the netflix chart thing)
service design
form of concept design that organises people, communication etc. of a service to improve interaction between provider + client
what do flowcharts do
they help describe processes, allow for a logical flow
flowchart
a visual representation of a process (algorithm)
flow chart: овал
start or stop
flow chart: круг
connector
flow chart: прямоугольник
