You are the founder of the World Economic Forum and you just wrote a book on the Fourth Industrial Revolution, why?

We must look at the great upheavals that the fourth industrial revolution will cause.
I have taken some time in the last few months to write a book on this subject, much helped by my collaborators.

J’ai pris du temps ces derniers mois pour écrire un livre à ce sujet, très aidé par mes collaborateurs.
When I started writing in July, there were only small streams that seemed to appear. Now it’s a tsunami. Digitalization, 3D printing, Big Data, drones, etc. All of this is going to shake our society to its foundations.
Quand j’ai commencé au mois de juillet à rédiger, il n’y avait que des petits ruisseaux qui semblaient apparaître. Désormais c’est un tsunami. Digitalisation, impression 3D, Big Data, drones, etc. Tout cela va bouleverser notre société dans ses fondements.
There is a lot of debate about the end of work with robotics and the disruption of certain sectors, what is your opinion on this?

This new industrial revolution will have a huge impact on the labor market.
It won’t kill all work, but it will kill some jobs, especially those in the intermediation field.
Cette nouvelle révolution industrielle aura un impact énorme sur le marché du travail.
Cela ne va pas tuer tout le travail mais certains jobs, notamment ceux qui sont dans le domaine de l’intermédiation.
For example, we will have a lot of job losses in the administrative sector, office workers in the banking sector and in administration in general.
All this intellectual but repetitive work can be replaced by the robotization of work processes.
Par exemple, nous aurons beaucoup de pertes d’emplois dans le secteur administratif, les employés de bureau du secteur bancaire et de l’administration en général.
Tous ces travaux intellectuels mais répétitifs peuvent être remplacés par la robotisation des processus de travail.
I believe in Schumpeter’s principle. As in the first three industrial revolutions, many of the jobs that are destroyed will be replaced by new ones.
Je crois au principe de Schumpeter. Comme lors des trois premières révolutions industrielles, une grande partie des emplois qui sont détruits seront remplacés par de nouveau.
For example, robot repairers, or drone dispatchers may be the jobs of tomorrow. We can’t imagine them all yet.

But there is a general trend. In the first industrial revolution, labor/workforce was transferred from agriculture to industry, then from industry to services.

From now on, there will be a concentration of jobs in the health, education and social domain. With the aging of the population and the increase in social misfits - I am thinking of refugees, for example - job opportunities will be created.

I add to this the cultural sector: the new paradigm will see an increase in the capacity for innovation, for creation, and this will not be concentrated only on the technological level.
J’ajoute à cela le secteur culturel : le nouveau paradigme verra augmenter la capacité d’innovation, de création et cela ne va pas se concentrer seulement sur le plan technologique.
What are the main risks for the global economy?
We’re going to publish a report on this subject. I can think of three main ones: regional conflicts, large-scale cyber-attacks, and shocks to the entire monetary and fiscal system because the world is still overburdened with debt.
We will have to find a solution.
Quels sont les principaux risques pour l’économie mondiale ?

The WEF has become an international organization now, what does it bring you?
We are the only organization that promotes cooperation between the public and private sectors.

This is very important because, at the next meeting in Davos, we will bring together 300 personalities from the world of politics with 1,500 business leaders, civil society, representatives of civil society, the best specialists and representatives of youth.
