What percentage of cabin air is recirculated?
30-50%
How can you tell if a smell is transient or persistent in nature?
It takes 4-5 minutes to completely refresh cabin air, so if the smell lasts longer than this then it is still being created
Briefly describe the air conditioning system - where does the air that enters the cabin come from, and what does it comprise?
Fresh air from the engines or APU enter the packs, and is then sent to the mixing unit. Here it is mixed with used cabin air. This mixed fresh and used air then enters via overhead ducts and side panels.
Together, the packs and the mixing unit are in the air conditioning bay
What support is available from the company following a cabin smell?
The easyJet Cabin Smell Event Care Pathway. It is available on DocuNet along with further supporting documents
What is an example PA for a precautionary rapid disembarkation on stand?
“Attantion, attention, this is an important announcement, all passengers must immediately disembark via the nearest boarding door in a prompt and orderly manner. Leave all personal items behind”
How would you initiate a precautionary rapid disembarkation on stand?
With the PA “Senior cabin crew member to the flight deck/interphone”
What PAs should be made following an RTO?
Immediately “attention, crew at stations”
Then, once the situation has been dealt with, either “Evacuate, unfasten your seatbelts and get out” or
“Senior cabin crew member to the flight deck/interphone” or
“Cabin crew, normal operations”
If it is possible to reach the cabin, what are the duties in an evacuation for the captain?
Take hi-viz if practicable
Take load form
Last person to leave cockpit. Proceeds to cabin to help evacuation as necessary
Last person to leave aircraft. Checks everyone has left.
Evacuates via rear door, unless unable.
On ground, takes command of operations until rescue units arrive
If it is possible to reach the cabin, what are the duties in an evacuation for the FO?

Evacuates the aircraft using any available exit.
Helps passengers on the ground and directs them away from aircraft.
What are the three warnings/events and when will they be triggered in the event of excess cabin altitude?
Cabin Alt 8800ft - CAB ALT pulses green on ECAM
Cabin Alt 9550ft - Master Warning and ECAM - CAB PR EXCESS CAB ALT
Cabin Alt 14000ft - Automatic PAX OXY mask deployment
If time permits, a PA “Attention, crew at stations” should be used.
What will happen automatically in the cabin in the event of a rapid decompression?
Drop-down oxygen masks deploy Cabin lights automatically 100% Decompression PA plays automatically Exit markers and location lights will be switched on Seatbelt signs switch on
What is an example of a PA to use in an emergency descent?
“Ladies and gentlemen, this is the captain speaking. We have lost cabin pressure and are descending to a lower altitude. Put your oxygen masks on and obey the instructions of the crew”
Following an emergency descent, what may be noticed from the oxygen generators?
A smell of burning
What are the main actions in the event of a lithium battery fire in the flight deck?
Contact crew via the interphone
Fight the fire
Request that cabin crew remove the device from the flight deck, and submerge it fully in water and leave it in the forward toilet for the duration of the flight
Monitor the device for reignition
Can you depart without SMK?
