-x-Abnormal Operations-x- Flashcards
Failure management - initial actions
- Failure
- Any memory item needed?
- Read FMAs. Try to reinstate automation. Tell PM what automation available
- Control the aircraft
- Navigation - Where am I going? NAV/HDG/HOLD? Consider weather and terrain
- Is it time critical?
- Fuel - state it as a time until tanks dry
Failure management through ECAM actions
- Title of failure announce
- Consider OEBs
- PF: “My radios, ECAM actions”
- PM confirm failure on ECAM using several sources
- ECAM task sharing
- “ECAM actions complete, my radios”
- Consider handing over control to assess the situation
DODAR - First D
Ask open question to other pilot eg “What do you think the failure was?”
Consider all resources - eg. Overhead panel, cabin crew, ATC, pax etc
DODAR - O
Follow acronym FLAW F - fuel - Convert this to time L - landing distance - Roughly what do we need A - Approach aids - What do we need W - Weather - What do we need
“Bearing in mind the above, what do you think we need?”
DODAR - Second D
Follow the acronym WETNAPS W - Weather E - Endurance T - Terrain N - NOTAMs A - Airport (category, fire level, services etc) P - Performance (EFB exact calculation) S - Safe/Commercial/Legal
DODAR - A
Who is currently flying? "While I update people, you have control" Contact ATC (NITS) Contact Cabin Crew (NITS) Contact Pax (NITS) Setup all as normal, but taking into account ECAM statuses Brief Handover control
DODAR - R
Consider acronym ABCDS A - Ask the other pilot to review it all. B - Review briefing C - Review any outstanding checklists D - Review decision S - Review the setup
How should you carry out an ECAM action on the overhead panel?
Name of system
Name of control

eg. ELEC-GEN1-OFF
eg. AIR CONDITIONING-PACK2-OFF
What actions would you do during disembarkation if you had ECAM L/G shock absorber?
Stop disembarking and try to move weight to the front of the aircraft before allowing pax off again
